Where a heroine of mine gets married
I’ve mentioned before that I am a bit of a fan of the Borgias, Lucrezia in particular due in no small part to the box set of the series that has enthralled me recently! I like Lucrezia’s feistiness, her clothes, the medieval crosses she wears (quite like this one from Mirabelle featured in Brides) and the fact she tears around Rome causing chaos and no end of trouble to her father who just happens to be the Pope!!! Cartolina Italiana……Mirabelle in Grazia 27 Feb 12
Thumbing through Grazia’s fashion feature today and spotting Mirabelle’s medieval cross with Biba chain and freshwater pearls amongst the stylish throng I started thinking about La Bella Italia. Now my kind of Italy is one spent zipping around heart in my mouth on one of those crazy mopeds, stopping off for a Grappa or three overlooking a spendid fountain or square and shopping for shoes and handbags like something out of a Fredrico Fellini movie! Now I know where I’ll be sending my next cartolina (postcard) from….Ciao ma Bella Donnas

Mad about the medieval milkmaid
I’ve been a fan of the middle ages since I was a child. I imagine it to be full of chivalrous knights dashing about on their white steeds (the modern day equivalent of Porsches and Ferraris), doing great deeds (that could be a struggle today), jousting (medieval equivalent to rugby or football), whisking maidens off their feet (today thats called being drunk), lots of feasting in banquet halls, (no change there then). Flower Power…..be sure to wear some flowers in your hair….
One of the best holidays I have ever been on bar none was a trip to San Francisco (the birthplace of Flower Power) a few years ago. Who doesn’t love flowers, or anything connected to them. I am very easily won over when someone gives me flowers, any flowers will do. Flowers lift our spirits, bring colour and beautiful scent into our lives and symbolise just about everything from friendship, to romance, solidarity and love. This season flower prints are destined to be huge and Mirabelle’s Raft ring goes brilliantly with the flower print featured in this article on Flower Power in March’s Woman & Home.

Blazing Embellishment/Gilding the Lily…the terrible twins
A blaze is described as a bright light or glare or an outburst of passion, embellishment is often referred to as exagerrating adorning and to make things more interesting by adding detail, hence the expression ‘Gilding the Lily’.
